I met Elyanah while she was working at Sugar Bar in Harlem and I was playing a guitar gig. She's a silly and creative person and her voice reminded me of some hybrid of Amy Winehouse and Erykah Badu. We linked up to create music and this song was born.

She started off the session with some arpeggiated keys and I built all around it. Her first words were "Superficial Lovin'" and immediately I wanted to talk about how sometimes you don't want to think about the future or past with a person, but to feel in the moment with them. It's sad because we can only live in the present for so long, because some parts of the human experience requires building. Even sometimes we build things we didn't intend, but it can set us on the path we were always meant to be on..
